“Safe” 12VDC power for WE826

I plan on using my WE826 as part of a security camera system for a remote construction site. It will be powered by a 12V 55Ah GEL battery and solar panel.

My concern is the voltage range on this system ranges from 11.7 - 14.5 volts based on the charge profile.

I know this router is used by RV’ers so there must be a cigarette lighter adapter/cord available to use in place of the 110VAC power adapter.

I could just cut the 110V plug and use the raw cable and connector to wire the router to the 12VDC source but is it safe to do so? I don’t want to damage the input circuit due to voltage fluctuations.

Does anyone know if the WE826 can deal with this voltage range? If not, is there some sort of power cord available that has the proper circuitry/protection built in?

Good to see you are thinking about this, many do not!

The main thing to keep in mind: if you understand voltage polarity, great. if you DO NOT, you can easily fry your router... Use this information at your own risk.

Your system range is not really a wide one (11.7 - 14.5) but if you wish to be super careful, use either:

Voltage Stabilizer - https://amzn.to/2M5aWeq

12V to 110V Inverter - https://amzn.to/35vx2yw

The voltage stabilizer would be the route I would suggest IF you can safely splice the wires correctly.

thanks! I ordered the voltage stabilizer. better safe than sorry

If going the voltage stabilizer route and just for safe measures, would install a fuse between stabilizer and router on the + side. Should be able to pick one up at about any auto parts store. Something like https://www.autozone.com/electrical-and ... /32415_0_0

Use about 5 amp fuse...

What is Voltage Stabilizer and Why we need it?

Voltage Regulator, to keep the voltage from spiking up higher than 12V and damaging the electronics
